Ex-Australian cricketer questions Glenn Maxwell’s exclusion from the first Test squad against Pakistan

Former Australian cricketer Doug Bollinger has raised eyebrows over the exclusion of Glenn Maxwell from the fourteen-member squad for the first test against Pakistan, scheduled to commence on Thursday, December 14 in Perth.

Glenn Maxwell’s omission: Doug Bollinger questions the selector’s decision

Bollinger, while speaking on SEN 1170 Mornings, not only questioned the selectors’ decision but also accused them of overthinking about batting order. Emphasizing that Maxwell’s batting position wouldn’t matter, Bollinger urged selectors to think outside the box, drawing parallels with the success of his earlier suggestion, Scott Boland, in the Test team.

“I even said to a few people, why wouldn’t they pick ‘Maxi’ in the Test squad the way he’s batting? He’s played Test cricket before. In Australian conditions, it’d be interesting. Who cares (where you put him), put everyone up the order. I like thinking outside the square like that mate. I said to pick Scott Boland a few years ago and I got called a moron,” Bollinger said.

Maxwell’s Test career so far and recent red-hot form

Maxwell boasted a Test record of seven matches, amassing 339 runs at an impressive average of 26.08. Notably, the 35-year-old has a Test century on Indian soil, showcasing his prowess in challenging conditions. Recently, Maxwell has been in exceptional form, displaying red-hot performances. In the recently concluded ICC Cricket ODI World Cup 2023, he made a significant impact by smashing two centuries, including a remarkable double-ton against Afghanistan. His stellar run continued in the subsequent T20I series against India, where he added another century to his impressive achievements.
